Product description

This selection of postcards gathers reproductions related to the exhibitions presented at the Château d'Eau. Based on colour photographs of everyday life, Beth Yamelle Edwards seems to want us to contemplate her "suburban dreams" as stereotypes of the confined universe in which American families rest in the evening or on Sundays, a universe built from scratch, and yet inhabited by the wear and tear of comfort, the family space as the centre of the world. Way, Helen Levit: for nearly sixty years, and without her images ever seeking to tell a story or defend a social thesis, but with a certain empathy, she will make the streets of New York's poor neighbourhoods her favourite domain. By surreptitiously slipping into this universe, she captures the energy of the children, the solitude of the elders, the choreography of life and marvels at the poetry of the streets. Gaël Bonnefon's images, shot on the surface of his skin, trace a kind of personal documentary that criss-crosses inconsiderate situations, characters in distress, for a fiction that is anchored in everyday life. About Decline, a living corpus from which the author draws the material for his exhibitions, describes a twilight world; but the night will never come. Image from the exhibition "Doisneau / Dieuzaide, une amitié heureuse" (Doisneau / Dieuzaide, a happy friendship). Richard Pak carried out this work by visiting the United States every year between 2003 and 2009. Taking as a guiding thread the declaration of independence of the United States, which mentions the right of everyone "to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", he chose to focus on 2 Americas, that of the middle class living the "American dream" and that of the "little people". The Château d'Eau, built in 1825 by the architect Jean-Antoine Raynaud, thanks to a bequest from the Capitoul Charles Laganne in order to "distribute pure, clear and pleasantly drinkable waters from the Garonne". A remarkable building, inscribed on the supplementary list of historical monuments, it has been an internationally renowned photographic centre since 1974, created on the initiative of the photographer Jean Dieuzaide.
