La Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de Santa María is a Catholic worship temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary based in the Spanish city of Burgos. Its construction began in 1221 according to French Gothic patterns. It underwent huge modifications during the 15th and 16th centuries: the spires of the main facade, the Condestable chapel and the transept dome, elements of the flamboyant Gothic that endow the temple with its unique silhouette. The last major works (the sacristy or Santa Tecla's chapel) date from the 18th century, when the Gothic doorway of the main facade got also modified.
