At the Musée Saint-Raymond, Toulouse's Archaeological Museum, you enter a place that will not leave you indifferent. On the 2nd floor, the objects presented and the models evoke Toulouse and its region in the time of the Gauls, Romans and Visigoths. On the 1st floor, you will never know if it is you who are observing the portraits in the gallery or if it is the emperors who are staring at you. Then come the mythological sculptures with these amazing sculpted reliefs representing the Labors of Hercules. The basement allows you to discover a real archaeological site: an old cemetery in which an astonishing vestige has been preserved, a lime kiln. Also on display are sarcophagi from the end of Antiquity and preserved from the walls of 11th, 13th and 16th centuries, which tell the story of the place.
The Musée des Augustins, founded in 1793, is one of the oldest museums in France along with the Louvre. Housed in a superb convent from the 14th and 15th centuries with an intact cloister and completed with a new wing in the 19th century, this is the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Toulouse.
